چکیده

We study the computational complexity of several problems connected with the problems of finding a maximal distance-k matching of minimum cardinality or minimum weight. We introduce the class of k-equimatchable graphs which is an edge analogue of k-equipackable graphs. We prove that the recognition of k-equimatchable graphs is co-NP-complete for any fixed k ≥ 2. We provide a simple characterization for the class of graphs with equal k-packing and k-domination numbers. We also prove that the problem of finding a minimum weight maximal distance-2l matching in chordal graphs is hard to approximate within a factor of ε ln |V (G)| for a fixed ε unless P = NP . Finally, we show NP-hardness of the minimum maximal induced matching problem in several restricted graph classes.

Global Forcing Number for Maximal Matchings under Graph Operations

Let $S= \{e_1,\,e_2‎, ‎\ldots,\,e_m\}$ be an ordered subset of edges of a connected graph $G$‎. ‎The edge $S$-representation of an edge set $M\subseteq E(G)$ with respect to $S$ is the‎ ‎vector $r_e(M|S) = (d_1,\,d_2,\ldots,\,d_m)$‎, ‎where $d_i=1$ if $e_i\in M$ and $d_i=0$‎ ‎otherwise‎, ‎for each $i\in\{1,\ldots‎ , ‎k\}$‎. ‎We say $S$ is a global forcing set for maximal matchings of $G$‎ ‎if $...

The number of maximal matchings in polyphenylene chains

A matching is maximal if no other matching contains it as a proper subset. Maximal matchings model phenomena across many disciplines, including applications within chemistry. In this paper, we study maximal matchings in an important class of chemical compounds: polyphenylenes. In particular, we determine the extremal polyphenylene chains in regards to the number of maximal matchings. We also de...

Matchability and k-maximal matchings

We present a collection of new structural, algorithmic, and complexity results for two types of matching problems. The first problem involves the computation of k-maximal matchings, where a matching is k-maximal if it admits no augmenting path with ≤ 2k vertices. The second involves finding a maximal set of vertices that is matchable — comprising one side of the edges in some matching. Among ou...

Ela on the Distance Spectral Radius of Unicyclic Graphs with Perfect Matchings

Abstract. For a connected graph, the distance spectral radius is the largest eigenvalue of its distance matrix. Let U1 2k be the graph obtained from C3 by attaching a path of length n− 3 at one vertex. Let U2 2k be the graph obtained from C3 by attaching a pendant edge together with k − 2 paths of length 2 at the same vertex. In this paper, it is proved that U1 2k (resp., U 2 2k) is the unique ...

On the Number of r-Matchings in a Tree

An r-matching in a graph G is a collection of edges in G such that the distance between any two edges is at least r. This generalizes both matchings and induced matchings as matchings are 1-matchings and induced matchings are 2-matchings. In this paper, we estimate the minimum and maximum number of r-matchings in a tree with fixed order.
